Happy New Year to all! Hopefully how one spends New Year's Eve is not an indication of how the year will go. If so, our year is going to be pretty dull. We invited a bunch of people over to have a nice little New Years gathering. Over the course of the past week every single person we invited backed out. Since Chris and I had the evening to ourselves we went to a movie. The Family Stone. It wasn't a bad movie, but it was hardly what I thought it was going to be. We had a large batch of cocktail weenies in BBQ sauce for dinner. All the food that we bought was stuff that will keep except those. It wasn't too bad of a dinner, but I can assure you that I do not want to see another cocktail weenie for a while. The rest of the night we plan to just veg out. Chris is playing PS2 and I have been working on my learn to crochet a scarf kit. For the record, crocheting is a pain in the a$$! I needed a break from it. I really wanted to learn how, but I am not sure that it's for me now that I have been working at learning. At least it is something to do. Tomorrow will be another day. We are going to cook the ham that the boss gave me with all the fixings. We have potatoes and beans and even a cake. We figure that we might as well treat ourselves to a nice big dinner to celebrate the New Year.
Last night before bed I heard something in the attic. After having Chris turn off the sound on his hockey game it was quite clear what the sound was. THERE IS SOMETHING LIVING IN OUR ATTIC!!! From the sounds it was as if the creature was trying to find a good nest for the night. I would say that it is about squirrel size. Chris is pretty sure he knows how it got in. While pulling snow off the the roof he discovered a spot that needs to be tarred. There is probably a hole right there just right for the critter it squeeze in. The next dry day we have that hole will need to be filled. I just hope our unwelcome tenant doesn't get down in the main part of the house. Yikes! That would not be good. I think we need a cat.
A funny tid-bit from people watching. Last night at Applebees we had a lovely dinner. The lady at the booth near us however had a bad but educational dinner. She ordered "blackened chicken" and complained to the waitress that it was overdone and "tasted burnt". From the tone in her voice it was all the waitress could do to explain to this poor lady that in fact was what blackened chicken was. In the end the lady sent her chicken back and ordered something else. When the menu says that something is black it shouldn't be much of a surprise that it would be black when you order it. She gave us a good laugh though.
I had a very Merry Christmas. My husband and I traveled 3 hours to my parents for Christmas Eve, where we went to a family Christmas party. It was nice to see the family again, it has been several years since we have seen most of them. Then on Christmas morning, after a great breakfast made by my mom, we drive 2 hours to my husbands parents home. We spent a nice quite Christmas there relaxing with family. It was a lot of traveling but we really had a good Christmas. The gifts weren't too bad either.
Now that we are back at home we have the week between Christmas and New Years off of work. What a glorious gift from the university! Just having time to ourselves is so great. We have started work on another room in our house. The work is never ending at home, so we are not bored at all. After we finish clearing the room we will begin the project of re-wiring and then on to drywall. Today I picked up some paint chips to pick the colors for the room. That is the part I am looking forward to. Well that and moving our bed into the room when it is done.

The other day at work a kid came in to interview for a job, and I saw him and knew he was familiar. Later after finding out that he was going to be hired, I asked his name. Once I heard his name I knew EXACTLY how I knew him. He has been very rude to me, my co-workers and our students on not one but TWO different occasions. I told the man who was going to hire him all that had happened...He looked ill when I was done. Two days later the kid wasn't hired. After the big boss decide it was a less than stellar idea to hire someone with such a bad temper and who was so rude to people in our office. Whoo hoo, I am the reason some jerk didn't get a job. I am awesome. teehee.
My parents just got a new dog, named Jessica. They adopted her this past weekend, and she is starting to find her place in the family. Whoever she was rescued from was neglecting her, and she was over 20 lbs. underweight. She is gaining and learning that her new "people" will treat her good and more importantly feed her! My mom has reported that Jessica is learning tricks and commands very quickly. I am looking forward to meeting my new "doggie sister" when I go home for Christmas.
I don't know how anyone could treat one of their animals badly. For me our pets have always been like part of the family. I can't even imagine leaving one of our dogs outside overnight let alone not feeding them or keeping them chained up out back with no shelter. Hopefully, Chris and I will be able to find a nice puppy to rescue and make part of our family.
We would like a smaller size dog. Chris really wants to get a Pug and I think that Yorkies are just the cutest little things. More likely we will end up with a mutt from the local animal shelter. A dog that needs a home sounds much more appealing.
Ok, so today I was googling people that I know and I came across a website of one person that posted a "bunch" of less than clothed pictures of herself. It was enough to make me decide to not google people again. Why? WHY? WHY would you post pornagraphic pictures of yourself online for ANYONE to find?! It just seems like it would be so logical. My eyes burn!
This Thanksgiving was very fun. We started our trip in Saginaw on Wednesday night for the Spirit game. Then we finished the trek to my parent's house in Detroit, where we had a very tasty dinner of turkey and all the fixings. My favorite part about the trip was getting to spend time with my nieces and my week old nephew. It was a great time, and it could not have come sooner because I was missing home and my family.
Now that we are back in Mt. Pleasant it was time to put u
p the Christmas tree. I had been tossing around the idea of not even putting up a tree this year since the new house is still a mess and all. But the Christmas spirit got the better of me, so I got out the tree that we got at the end of last season. We were excited to see what it looked like put up since it was coming out of the box for the first time. Well, our excitement was cut short very quickly. We didn't have 4 branches up yet and already they were shedding 5 inch long pieces of fake pine, not to mention the tree was about 5 inches too tall for our low ceilings.
After messing with the tree for a while we had just about had it and were ready to dump it behind the local Goodwill. My lovely and innovative husband started to modify the base and trunk of the tree. He eliminated about 2 1/2 foot of the height and after the branches were not it was pretty full, though it does have an "hourglass" shape to it. I call it good enough for this year....Next year we try out a real tree.
Today I had to get a filling redone. It was a old filling that I had from when I was just a kid and I guess it was just no good any more. The dentist seems to think that I will need a crown on the tooth now too. Not something to look forward to this holiday season. At least I will get a royal tooth out the deal. :-)That broken tree that was in the front yard of the house is now gone...finally. We were lucky and were able to have it cut down before it fell down. I am glad for that because it would have been a shame if it fell on someone or put a big old hole in our house. Though I am sure I can think of someone I won't mind a tree falling on. Oh, and I really wouldn't have cared if it broke down that old split rail fence on the side of the house either. Oh well. It actually looks a lot nicer in front without it...the house seems bigger and brighter from the street. At least the house looks good from one angle.
Today is a very windy day. The weather channel said that they gusts are 40 mph or more. All the hard work we did yesterday raking the massive quantities of leaves in our yard is all for not. Our neat piles are now spread all over, though luckily some have migrated to the neighbor's yard. While watching the yellow leaves flying around we noticed that the mostly dead tree in the corner of our front yard looks like it is ready to blow right on over. It is swaying back and forth like a flimsy reed in the wind. I know now why they call this "fall."
I have seen people using these blogs and thought "hey, I'm bored. I want a blog!" So I now have a blog, as you can plainly see. However, now that I am writing this it occurs to me that I really don't have much that I want to say...I just want a place to say something for when I have something to say.
After I get the idea of how to use this blog I think that I will post updates on the house, and what's new in my little world. I hope that you enjoy getting the opportunity to take a little peek into my head and checking out the pictures that I post. Please feel free to post comments and ideas on what I should write about.
