Wee Bit Wednesday

{one} what was one thing that you valued when you were a kid?

When I was a kid I love to play outside.  Most of my memories from being a kid are us playing with the kids on the block, running up and down the street all day.  I wish I still loved the outdoors that much, but allergies have made playing outside less pleasant in my adult years.

{two} what was your favorite (+ lease favorite) subject in school?

My favorite classes in school were the arts and English.  I preferred them to any of the academic classes.  My most hated subject was always math.  Math and I do not get along.  “Math, I am not your therapist, and I cannot solve all your problems.”

{three} do you remember your first love?

Yes, who doesn’t?  As with most kids my first “love” was really more of a crush and was something I kept to myself. 

{four} what one pet would you love to have?

I would love to get an alpaca if we ever move to a house with some land for him to live on. 

{five} would you rather live in the country or in the city?

If you asked me this question 10 years ago I would have said city with no doubt in my mind.  These days, I have to say country. There is something so nice about having space between you and your neighbors, and not so much light so you can actually see the stars at night.

{six} what do you love about blogging?

I love getting thoughts out and having someone care about reading them.  Lately, I have been in a bit of a slump where it comes to writing good posts and stories.  I hope that will pass soon because I miss having something fun to tell you all about. 

{seven} what is the first website you visit everyday?

Twitter!  I have to check up on my friends and see what is going on. For many of my friends we keep in touch via Twitter so it is like checking my email and sometimes I check Twitter before even looking at my email.  Also,  I like getting breaking news in little 140 character increments.  The bad stories are a lot less depressing when you can fly past them and read the next thing.

{eight} will you or have you joined google+?

I joined, but it is really kind of boring.  I still prefer Twitter.

{nine} what is your favorite scent of candle/air freshener?

I like “fall” scents like pumpkin and apple spice.  There is one scent from some candle company I can’t remember the name of called Teakwood Cardamom and that is my all-time favorite. 

{ten} how would you describe your style?

My style is very eclectic.  I like the minimalist modern look where everything is clean and simple, but I really gravitate toward more raw wood and antique type items.

Wee Bit Wednesday

{one} what is your dream job?

I would love to work on the set of movies or a TV show.  What goes on behind the scenes really intrigues me and I think it would be something I was good at.  For example the costume department or something like that.  Since I have no plans to move to LA or NY in my lifetime I will just have to let this one just be a dream.

{two} how many best friends do you have?

Besides my husband, who I consider to be my best friend, I have two best girlfriends.  Sarah I met in college and she was the person to introduce me to my husband, Chris.  She and I don’t go a week without emailing these days and I live for our visits and chats.  Chantel, is a dear friend I met through my husband.  At the time she was dating my husband’s co-worker and friend, Dan.  They are now married and live down the street from us with their daughter.  I’m so lucky to have them in my life.

{three} what’s the longest road trip you’ve ever taken?

Our drive to our honeymoon destination in the Poconos was the longest road trip I have ever been on and I would be happy to never again drive that far away.  The vacation was awesome through and I loved it in Pennsylvania. 

{four} if you had to do one single thing every day for the next year, what would it be?

That is a tough question.  Is it the single and only thing I had to do all day or just something I had to do every day all year?  Since I would probably be miserable doing the same thing every waking minute for a year I am going to go with something I had to do daily for a year.  I would pick sewing.  As long as I am not making a big mess of whatever I am trying to make (which has happened) it is really calming to sew and watch that needle bob up and down so perfecting weaving something out of fabric and thread.

{five} what’s one story your family always tells about you?

I’m told that when I was still very small I wandered away in a store.  They found me playing in another aisle because I dropped whatever I was holding and said “ah shit!” I’m sure they are very proud.

{six} how did your parents pick your name?

I was named Melinda after my sister Melissa.  We share a middle name but growing up my mom called her “Lis” and me “Lin”.  Through most of high school I wished I had a different name so I wouldn't get called "Melin-DUH" anymore, but now that I am older and (hopefully) wiser I love my name.  There are not that many Melinda’s around, and now that I am past that wanting to fit in high school years crap, having a rather unique name is great. 

{seven} what’s the one thing that scares you more than anything?

Something happening to my son is my worst fear.  I have waking nightmares about him being hurt in different ways and my mind flies through all the scenarios of what I would do to save him.  I don’t know if I could live without him.

{eight} are you a good cook?

I am not a good cook.  I would call myself more of a mediocre cook who can make a few things that taste good but can only make a handful of meals that I feel confident won’t taste like feet.

{nine} where do you see yourself in 20 years?

I hope in 20 years I am mother to a grown son who has already found his life’s passion and is successful in making a living doing something he loves.  Hopefully we will have raised him to be a good man.  In 20 years, I hope we managed to take some time to travel and that we will have saved so we don't have to fear retirement.  On a more vain note, I hope that in 20 years I will have aged as gracefully as my mother, who doesn't come close to looking her age.

{ten} what’s your best childhood memory?

I have fond memories of playing with all the kids on the block from dawn until dusk all summer long.  I can’t remember one particular instance that was memorable but the summers as a whole; when all we had to do all day was have fun, play and not hold the front door open letting the heat in.

Wee Bit Wednesday

Again a day late with Wee Bit Wednesday, but if it wasn't for the name you wouldn't even know the difference.  Leigh Ashley took a few week break but is back this week with some new questions.



 

{one} what’s the #1 most played song on your iPod (or whatever you use)?

Currently that would be "Good Life" by OneRepublic.  I can’t get enough OneRepublic right now. 
 

{two} what’s your favorite type of exercise? 

Without a doubt that would be walking, preferably on a wooded trail with a nice view.

{three} what’s your least favorite mode of transportation? 

Inline skating, although I don’t think that many people do that anymore.  In college I gave it a go and after many a dramatic wipe outs I pitched the skates and decided I was not meant to have that type of wheels under my body.  This also goes for regular roller skates and ice skates as well.  They just turn into sliding across the ground on my ass transportation. 

{four} if you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be? 

I think I would love to be 30 forever; old enough to know better about most things, but still young and peppy.  But most importantly I had Ian just before I turned 30 and I couldn’t live forever without him.

{five} when you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you use it to do? 

Either spending some quality time on Pinterest via the iPad or reading.  If I have a project that I am working on I might spend that time sewing, but usually I try to schedule my sewing so I don’t really count it as free time.

{six} what do you miss the most about being a kid? 

Having the energy to do whatever it is that I love from dawn until dusk every day.  I remember being a kid and getting up and playing all day until it got dark out again.  I miss having energy like that.

{seven} when was the last time you were nervous? 

Yesterday! My friend’s husband left his car at their new house and so she asked me to help her get it home.  I drove her car and she followed in her husband’s car.  It made me nervous being responsible for someone else’s car, and driving right in front of them no less.  Thankfully there really wasn’t anything to worry about.

{eight} what was the first thing you bought with your own money when you were young? 

I can’t even remember, but it was probably makeup or something like that. 

{nine} what is your favorite month of the year? 

August, my birthday month and Ian’s birthday month is probably my favorite.  However, I really do love autumn and the feeling in the air during October.  That one is a toss-up. 

{ten} what are 3 songs from the soundtrack of your life?

Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley was my wedding song.

You are My Sunshine because I sang it to Ian every day to put him to sleep when he was an infant.

We Belong by Pat Benatar.  This is a great song that I would have to fit in somewhere, because there is no doubt my soundtrack needs a little Pat Benatar. 

Wee Bit Wednesday, on Thursday

Yesterday, Toni at Coffee and Chocolate posted about Wee Bit Wednesday, which is kind of a question and answer day.  I thought it looked like fun so I'm going to give it a go, even though it is actually Thursday.  You don't mind do you?  Of course not!  Either way I am going to start following the Wee Bit Wednesday creator Leigh Ashley because her blog is gorgeous.

{one} how many times have you been a bridesmaid/maid of honor?

I have been a bridesmaid twice; once for my sister and once for my sister-in-law.  That is plenty of times for my taste.

{two} what’s the last thing you do before you fall asleep at night?  

First I plug in my phone so it will charge overnight, then I get into bed and wrestle just enough blanket to cover myself away from the dogs, who are always first to bed.

{three} you just won your dream vacation, all expenses paid. where are you going?  

I would go on a tour of several countries spending a few days in each one.  My stops would include England, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy and maybe a stop to see Greece before coming home. 

{four} what is your favorite outdoor activity?  

I love going on nice long walks with my husband or a friend, and I enjoy just hanging out in the shade of our big tree in the back yard.

{five} as a child, what did you want to “be when you grew up”? did you end up there?  

 I changed what I wanted to be so often I wouldn't know which one was first.  I remember wanting to be a veterinarian, a psychologist, and a photojournalist.  The only thing I really knew I had to be when I grew up was a mother.  That is the one thing that really mattered to me, a career was just a means to make money.

{six} what are 3 things your dream home would have that you don’t currently have?  

I can only pick three things?  Three of the many things my dream home would have would be a paved two car wide drive way, built in shelving and cabinets in the living room, and a bay window seat for snuggling up to read.

{seven} what’s for dinner tonight?  

 I would say we will grill hot dogs tonight, but knowing my husband he will want something else.  Typically if I have something in mind for dinner that is the thing he doesn't feel like eating that night.  So we will probably have nachos. 

{eight} if someone stopped by your house unannounced on a typical Saturday night, what would they find you doing? 

Sitting around playing on the iPad or reading while Ian watches some cartoon movie for the eleventy billionth time.  I'm pretty boring most of the time, save the rare epic weekend with my friend Sarah.

{nine} what’s your average monthly water bill?  

Our water bill is usually about $32 each month.  Unlike many areas that also include trash pickup on their water bill we have to pay that separately per bag/can.  It does include a charge for having curbside recycling pick up.  For the trash we have to use special trash bags or tags that cost $2.05 each to throw away trash.

{ten} what do you do to relax?

I like to read or play on the computer.  If I need to relax to get away from it all I either go to a movie or go shopping somewhere like Joann Fabrics.  Nothing like a little me time to recharge yourself for the next tantrum or mess that needs to be cleaned up.
